1. Measuring the Storage of Batteries by Voltmeter With Load


It is difficult to accurately detect the storage capacity of the battery by using only the voltage of the voltmeter or multimeter without load. When measuring voltage alone, the consumption current is very little, so it will not produce a large voltage drop inside the battery, and the display voltage is not low. But if a considerable load is added, such as turning on the headlamp (load current 10-15A) and honking the horn (load current 6-12A), the battery will make the light dim and the horn hoarse, thus showing the insufficient electricity.


The correct and reliable detection method is to connect the starter on the vehicle to detect the battery voltage. The steps are as follows: under the normal engine temperature, connect a voltmeter to the positive and negative poles of the battery, pull out the fuel injector wire, and make the engine unable to start. Start the engine running for 5 to 10 seconds continuously, and observe the degree of voltmeter. When the voltage of 12V battery is 9.6V or higher than 9.6V under the condition of good connection between the starter and the line, it shows that the battery is in good technical condition; if the voltage is lower than the above value, it shows that the battery is in a power shortage and the storage capacity is insufficient.


2. Measuring the Storage Volume of Batteries with a Gravimeter


It is also a common method to use a hydrometer to measure the storage capacity of storage batteries. The standard proportion of electrolyte is 1.25-1.29 kg/l at 20 C. If the proportion of electrolyte is less than the above value at 20 C and more than 1.06 kg/l, the storage capacity of the battery is insufficient and needs to be charged. If the specific gravity of electrolyte is 1.06kg/l or less at 20 C, it means that the battery has completely discharged or even smaller. Damage. According to this principle, the specific gravity of battery electrolyte can be measured by a hydrometer to know the storage capacity of the battery, and the condition of the battery can be further judged.

3. Measuring the Storage of Batteries by Battery Detector


In the daily maintenance and maintenance, it is really possible to quickly and accurately detect the storage capacity of the battery, or to use the battery detector. When in use, the battery detector is connected to the battery for 10-15 seconds and the voltage is maintained at 10.5-11.6V, indicating that the battery has sufficient capacity and no fault; the voltage is maintained at 9.6V-10.5V, indicating that the capacity is insufficient and the battery has no fault; the voltage drops below 9.6V, indicating that the capacity is seriously insufficient or that the battery has a fault. The above is just a simple battery detector, which can only measure the battery voltage under the condition of high current discharge, and roughly judge the storage capacity of the battery. At present, the more advanced battery detector can measure the cold start current (CCA) accurately besides starting discharge.
